Technical Specification
- The JAFA can also be used with 2x3, 2x4 and 2x6 lumber. It comes with a software program designed to retrieve the data recorded in the machine through the serial port of a conventional computer. The same software allows for rapid analysis of the result.
Description
Finger-jointing machine use variable speed rolls to press the blocks togheter and ensure adequate bonding. However, operators have had no means of measuring the pressure thus applied to the joints. Responding to a need expressd by industry, FP Innovations and Systech Industrie inc. develloped the Jointing Apparatus Force Analyser (JAFA) to measure such pressure and diagnose potential problems.
The JAFA consists of 2''x 3'' steel case containing a force sensor, a data recorder and batteries. It also packs a miniature 4000lbs capacity dynamometer. The apparatus measures and records the force applied longitudinally to the lumber as it travels through the various sections of the FJ line, so that the force actually applied to the joints can be measured directly. The pressure is measured on-line and variations along the FJ line can be determined.
The JAFA is a simple tool that operator can use to diagnose quality problems caused by inadequate finger-jointing pressure settings. Vice versa, it will confirm that the pressure applied within the desired range, thereby eliminating this variable as a potential source of problems.
